The Moose Program
The Maine Moose is a junior hockey program that is dedicated to the development of aspiring college and professional bound athletes. While the fundamental objective of our program is to maximize exposure of the athletes to colleges and major junior programs, what differentiates the Moose program from other junior teams is that we provide a holistic approach to the development of our players. We consider ourselves more than just a “hockey factory”. Our core values are centered on the growth of the student athlete in the following areas:
• Advancement of hockey skills
• Increase athletic performance and conditioning
• Ensure academic preparedness
• Enhancement of citizenship skills
For the upcoming 2010-2011 season the Maine Moose will ice a Junior A team and a split-season Midget AAA team. The Junior A team will compete in the International Junior Hockey League (IJHL) Super Elite division, with teams throughout the northeast US. The Midget AAA team will be an affiliate member of the IJHL Elite division, compete in the State of Maine league and regional tournaments. The Moose play at the historic Kennebec Ice Arena (KIA) in Hallowell, Maine, a 1,000 seat facility.
In keeping with our core values, our program has been designed to help take the motivated student athlete to the next level. Our program is designed to be demanding in a number of areas. We understand that junior hockey is an investment in the future, and we believe that a person who participates in our program will not only graduate as a better athlete, but be a more mature, well rounded and prepared student and citizen. To that end we will provide:
• 50 to 60 league/non-league games (Junior A)
• 3-4 showcase tournaments
• 1 week intensive training camp
• 150-200 hours of on-ice training
• 150-200 hours of off-ice training
• Top quality coaching and training
• Monitored Individualized academic programs
• College application assistance
• Specialized personal growth programs and lifestyle counseling
• Housing Assistance
• Job assistance.
